Rushden Lakes opens to the public

Rushden Lakes opened Friday and marks the arrival of the first shopping centre that combines with a nature reserve in the UK. It is a completely new shopping experience that offers big name brands and leisure facilities set beside a stunning lake and nature trails. Rushden Lakes shopping centre is the gateway to the Nene Wetlands nature reserve, that is one square mile of wild and man-made habitats.

As the shops opened their doors, thousands of shoppers from the area flocked to be the first to explore the site, picking up the early bird offers and prizes. It is safe to say there is no other shopping experience like it in the UK.

Some of the big name brands at Rushden Lakes include New Look, Primark, M&S, JD Sports and Boots, along with leading fashion and lifestyle brands such as Jigsaw, White Stuff and Joules. Many of the stores had great retail window displays for the grand opening of the shopping centre.

Rushden Lakes boasts 230,000 sq ft of retail space alongside stunning lakes, set in more than 200 acres of a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The site is operated in partnership of the Wildlife Trusts of Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Cambridge, who are offering shoppers an interactive Wildlife Discovery Centre too. Leisure offers at Rushden Lakes include boating and canoeing from experts at Canoe2.

Paul Rich, the centre manager of Rushden Lakes, said, “Our aim is to squarely connect to a new audience with outdoor activity, wildlife and nature. The Nene Wetlands Visitor Centre is the gateway to an incredible 1km nature trail around the lake and the Nene Valley.

“Our focus is on nature, quality retail and fantastic family fun. We genuinely believe we are redefining the UK retail landscape – where else can you come to shop by canoe?”
